When I found out that the government did not clean/encrypt/destroy their old hard disks with vital information on them I was in awe. I cant believe that they would be that careless with memory/storage pieces that contained at one point extremely important information. They go through all the precautions so people aren't able to hack into their information databases to then have that same information not be erased off donated or sold hard disks. I feel as if this is an extremely important issue and is the main reason on why I picked this issue to write about.
The Government should be required to make sure that all sold, donated, or discarded computers to be cleaned, encrypted, or destroyed. Personally if any kind of government info were to put on a hard disk that is not needed any more they should be completely destroyed. You never know what kind of hands that recycled hard disk will end up and I feel as if the government should take all precautions necessary to make sure that the data is not seen by people that shouldn't see it. There should be strict protocol that the government should require to clean/encrypt a hard disk that is going to be given to someone else to be reused.
I would take as much extra effort to clean or encrypt the contents of hard disks on sold, donated, or discarded computers. The information on the said hard disks could be used against the government or the people in it. Terrorists would kill to have any information that could get their grimy little hands on to break our nation. The fact that the government is careless enough to let this happen scares me and if information would fall in the wrong hands it could cause havoc across the nation. You just never know what could happen and as many precautions as possible should be taken for the sake of the safety of our people/nation.
Hey you government you seem to never let me down on disappointing me constantly. We are worried about other people trying to take us over and destroy us. It seems like you guys are doing an awesome job at doing :)
