First Semester of College is Coming to an End....

So I have two more weeks left in my first semester of college...needless to say I cant believe it went by this quickly. I did have a blast though. Considering all of my classes were extremely easy, i didnt have that many difficulties with my classes which left the weekends for me to go visit my friends at their colleges and such.

When I signed up for my classes I really didnt think much of CSI 112. When i chose it I had what i needed to transfer to college park on my mind. CSI 112 just so happened to be one of those courses. Coming into the class I was already well acquainted with all four microsoft office tools. so i really didnt have many expectations.

The one computer concept that I learned most about though was cloud computting. Before this class I had never even heard of the concept cloud computting. Now I find it quite interesting and valuable to have your information, documents, everything thats on your computer on the internet. It will end up being quite useful that way if you need anything specific no matter where you are you will be able to grab it down from the "clouds". haha

To tell you the truth I dont think I really learned anything new about any of the office applications that we used in the class. I had been introduced and had already used word, excel, access and powerpoint previously. I actually took a class my freshmen year of highschool that worked with the same kind of textbook and everything but microsoft 2003 version instead of 2007. So I can honestly say that it was pretty much the same highschool class all over again.

I feel like I probably benefitted from the consistant schedule that we had the most. With having lecture on mondays and then lab on wednesday I got into the groove of splitting my time between assignments and labs. Even though I always had my assignments done ahead of time for the most part it was still extremely benefical to know that assignments were always due mondays and labs by the end of class wednesday and using angel kept me extremely organized.

Considering you will be listening to this Prof Aclin, I would just like to say thank you for this past semester I had fun in your class and you were an amazing teacher. Thank you for being so organized and understanding i wish all my professors were like you. :)

Do you work harder when someone is watching you?

This is gonna be one of the last if not the last post dealing with an assignment from my computer class. *sad face* So for this assignment i decided to choose to comment on the proposal that employees work harder when they know that they are being observed by their managers/bosses/owners, etc. I do think this is a logical thing to notice and it could very well be true. And that is why i chose it.

I feel like this a very good proposal because i do think that people will work harder if they are being watched. People would fear that if they dont show their best effort while being watched then they may jeopardize their job and may then lose it due to their lack of working. Even though people should work hard when they are being watched or not because they never know when they may be watching you without notifying you about it. So say they are secretly watching you and you slack off like you would when they arent watching and they will see exactly how well you do work and you just may lose your job for your lack of work ethic.

i learned about the Hawthorne Effect in my sociology class and i think it is very believable. When people know they are being watched they will do all that they can do dealing with any situation, whether it be good or bad, to the best of their ability. They would try extra hard to impress the observers so they can prove to them that they are worthy of the job. So I do indeed agree with the research done.

I feel like observing employees as they work is very ethical. You are paying someone to complete a certain set of jobs and to do them well. The administration of the company has every right to observe and make sure that such is being done to complete all jobs needed and they are completed correctly. So yes indeed it is ethical because the company has to protect itself and make sure that no employee is trying to cheat it. But this observing the employees may make them paranoid and make them feel like they cant be trusted which may cause some friction between the employees and the administration.

Even though when obsevation is being done productivity increases , I do not think that is a good technique to use to gather data for a system study. I think this because you arent getting actually data on how they work in a regular environment. The only way it would work so efficient data could be collected would be if the employees did not know they were being watched so that way you can see them work in their regular enviroment and see if the productivity is more or less or even the same that is seen when being observed.

And this i believe just may bring us to the end of entries for my wonderful computer class since we are nearing the semester end. Now i must return to watching the redskins and the titans battle for the win. hope you guys are having a good weekend and i hope you guys have a very nice thanksgiving holiday. I dont know about you but i have a lot to be thankful for and i get to spend this thanksgiving with my family for the first time in my 18 years and 11months of living. needless to say im quite excited :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! =D

Online Databases

So for our Assignment this week were to google 3 websites that allow you to create your own database online. So as I am starting the assignment and searching for some websites to test out i find that any kind of database website there is you have to sign up for. I'm not that much of a fan of signing up to websites to have to use them when i'm only going to use them for one time. So I'm sorry Professor Aclin I did not complete this assignment and I apologize for making you waste your time reading this entire paragraph just to find this out. So hopefully you end up checking my blog either in the middle or the end of the Virtual stack of blogs that way it gives you a little break maybe even a chuckle, who knows.

But I would like to share the fact that i voted for the first time today!!!!!!! I was like a-kid-in-a-candy-shop type of excited to vote. I see it as my next step into adulthood. I have an obligation to myself and our fine citizens to help vote in the candidates that have our best interests at heart. Many of my friends that are may age either havent registered or just didnt want to vote because they dont think it effects us yet its a more adult responsibility that we have later on when we are on our own. But boy are they wrong. Education was my main focus on my selections today. I need the people who are willing to make education one of their priorities because the standard in our great nation is falling and as a college student i need for these outragous tuition prices to be dropped a bit ahhahaha or making it easier for an average white american to get financial aid. because at this rate i shall be broke by my sophomore year in college. yayyy....

hope all are doing well and had a happy halloween.

-Allie signing out- :)
